Flagging Nominations
Nomination flags help Administrators automatically highlight entries that may need attention. Flags are defined per programme, and when a nomination matches one or more flags, a red warning panel appears on the nomination page in the dashboard with clear, human‑readable messages about the problem. These flags are particularly helpful when a candidate submits all the required information but you may need additional clarification or do not want to stop them from submitting. Keep flags simple and focused; several small rules are often easier to understand than one complex rule.
Who can manage flags
Only programme Administrators can create, edit, or delete nomination flags. All changes are audited: creating, updating or deleting a flag records an event in the user’s timeline.
Where to find them
Dashboard → Programmes → choose a programme → Nomination Flags.
The list shows all flags for the current programme. Use the “New Flag” button to add one.
How flags are evaluated
If any flag matches, the nomination is considered “problematic” and a red panel appears on its dashboard page. Multiple flags may match; each produces a separate bullet point in the warning panel.
Creating a flag
Each flag has three parts:
- Field: the data point to check. Field labels are shown in plain English. You can also pick “Candidate age (years)” to compare by age.
- Operator: the test to run (see the operator reference below).
- Value: the value to compare against (not needed for “present/blank”). For drop‑down questions, only values from that programme’s form are accepted.
After saving, the flag is active immediately.
Operator reference
Standard operators
- Equals: the field must be the exact same as the value.
- Does not equal: the field must not be the exact same as the value.
- Contains: the field’s text must include the value.
- Does not contain: the field’s text must not include the value.
- Greater than / Less than: numeric or date comparison, where possible.
- Greater than or equal to / Less than or equal to: numeric or date comparison.
- Is present: the field must have a value.
- Is blank: the field must be empty.
Built‑in checks
Choose operator “Built‑in check”, then pick one of the predefined checks. These do not require a field.
Special field: Candidate age (years)
To compare by age at the end of the programme year, choose field “Candidate age (years)” and use any of the comparison operators, e.g.:
- Greater than → 35 (flags nominees over 35)
- Less than or equal to → 21 (useful for Young Achiever ranges)
Value rules and safety
For collection / country questions, values must come from that programme’s form. This prevents typos and ensures consistent filtering. Present / Blank operators do not require a value. Built‑in checks require one of the predefined options listed above.
Examples
Flag all nominations from a specific country:
- Field: Country
- Operator: Equals
- Value: United Kingdom
Flag missing biography:
- Field: Biography
- Operator: Is blank
Flag age over a threshold:
- Field: Candidate age (years)
- Operator: Greater than
- Value: 35
